Beginning from driver version v2.50 the MARIAN driver software is compatible with Windows™ 8. Earlier driver version are intended for Windows™ XP to Windows™ 7. In case you tried to install an older Windows™ 7 driver in Windows™ 8, the installation now is incomplete and faulty. Please follow these steps to uninstall the older driver using a special way in order to be able to install the most recent driver afterwards:

7. Attention: Changes of Shutdown in Windows™ 8

Windows™ 8 introduces a so called "Quickstart". It's active by default and forces the computer to go to "Hibernation Mode" if you shut down the computer. Perhaps you already know the hibernation mode from Windows™ XP/Vista/7. In Windows™ 8 it does not matter which way you use for computer shutdown. Even if you press the ATX power switch - with "Quickstart" active the computer goes to hibernation. If you restart from hibernation, an existing operating system boot menu is skipped and the computer starts always Windows™ 8. "Hibernation Mode" is an efficient way of power saving which uses other methods for hardware reinitialization. These methods are not supported by this driver version. Thus, whenever the computer comes back from hibernation, you will not be able to hear any sound from you soundcard. That's the reason why we currently cannot suggest to use any power management mode in Windows™ XP to Windows™ 8. For Windows™ 8 we recommend to deactivate the "Quickstart":

8. Operation in Windows™ Vista / Windows™ 7 / Windows™ 8

On Windows™ Vista / Windows™ 7 audio applications, who do not use ASIO or WSAPI, are not able to set a certain samplerate or sample format. Instead, sample rate and sample format is set in the advanced settings of an audio device in the Windows™ control panel. This leads to the following:

9. MME, WDM-Audio and DirectSound

Audio applications, who do not use ASIO or direct WDM-Audio, now communicate with Microsoft MME or Microsoft WDM Audio drivers instead of communicate with the MARIAN drivers directly. The Microsoft drivers in turn communicate with the MARIAN drivers.
