The following topics describes the single steps wich are necessary to install the ARC44 Soundcard into your computer. In order to get the installation to a successful end, it is absolutely necessary to proceed by means of the topics below in the given order.
You can setup the ARC44 in a I/O range of 000h-3F8h.
· First find a free I/O address in your computer, wich provides a free range of 8 bytes. You can use the Device Manager of Windows 95™ to find out this.
· Now setup the ARC44 with the desired I/O address. This happened by using the switcher at the upper side of the ARC44, wich is labeled with A3-A9. The following table shows a selection of the most common I/O addresses and its corresponding settings at the ARC44.

The ARC44 Soundcard supports the following interrupt requests: 5, 10, 11, 12, 15
· First find a free IRQ in your computer. You can use the Device Manager of Windows 95™ to find out this.
· Setup the desired IRQ at the ARC44 by using the switcher wich is labeled with IRQ. In order to activate the desired IRQ, just toggle the appropriate switcher to upper position.
Please note that only one switcher can be activated at same time.
In the case your computer has not a available IRQ, so deactivate all IRQ's by toggling all IRQ switchers to lower position. At the time you have to configure the ARC44 Device Driver, choose the IRQ setting TIMER at the ARC44 Device Driver Control Panel.
· Secure, that your computer is disconnected from power.
· Open the cover.
· Find a free ISA slot.
· Remove the corresponding slot plate.
· Insert the ARC44 Soundcard into the ISA slot carefully.
· Fix the soundcard with a screw at the slot plate.
· If you want to play audio CD's by using the ARC44 Soundcard, please note first the paragraph Connecting the CDROM Drive.
· Close the cover of the computer.
With the ARC44 Soundcard you are able to connect up to four external Mono-Play-Devices (or two Stereo-Play-Devices), four external Mono-Record-Devices (or two Stereo-Record-Devices) and a CDROM drive wich is integrated at you computer.
In order to play audio CD's, first connect the audio cable of the CDROM drive with the four-pole plug at the ARC44 Soundcard. Because there are a lot of different kinds of audio cables, please note to use a cable of the following type: left channel, ground, right channel, ground. A cable of this type you can recognize by the colors: colored (white), black, colored (red), black.
Please pay attention to the notes provided in Troubleshooting.
The connection of the play- and record devices happen though four 6.3mm stereo jacks. The following table shows the meaning of this jacks.

· Insert the ARC44 Driver Disc into a drive.
· Open the start menu Windows 95™ and choose Settings Þ Control Panel.
· Open the dialog for installing new hardware components by double clicking the icon Hardware
· Click at the button Next to start the installation.
· Now you will get the opportunity to search automatically for new hardware components. Choose No and click at the button Next
· In the appearing list of hardware types choose Audio-, Video- und Gamecontroller and click at the button Next
· In the following dialog click the button Disc to get Windows 95™ to install the ARC44 drivers from disc. Now click at Browse and select the directory English to install the english driver version. Click OK to confirm the selected directory and click OK once more to finish the source directory dialog.
· Now you have the choice of all available models of the ARC44. Just click at the button OK and start the copy process in the next dialog by clicking the button Next.
· After the drivers were copied, a dialog appears with the settings of I/O address and IRQ for the ARC44 driver (called ARC44 Drive Driver Control Panel). Now carry out the same setting you have chosen in the hardware configuration and confirm your settings by clicking the button OK.
· At the conclusion of the installation process Windows 95™ suggests you to restart the operating system. That is unconditionally necessary to activate the ARC44 driver. Therefor click at the button Yes
· After Windows 95™ has restarted, the ARC44 Soundcard is ready to operate.
· If the driver reports at start of Windows 95™ that it could not initialize the ARC44 hardware, this often is caused by a discrepancy of the I/O addresses of the driver and the soundcard or a collision of the I/O address of the ARC44 with another system component.
Þ Check the I/O settings of the driver and the soundcard.
· If you hear while playing a sound only a continuous repetition of a very short fragment of the sound, this often is caused by a wrong IRQ setting.
Þ Check the IRQ settings of the driver and the soundcard.
· While you playing a sound, you can hear noting.
Þ Please check whether your sampling program is using the ARC44 driver or not. If this program is not able to specify a definite driver, the choose in the Control Panel under Multimedia the ARC44 driver as the privileged driver.
Þ Check the cable connections between the ARC44 Soundcard and the external audio devices by using the notes provided in the paragraph Connection external audio devices.
· Although a audio source was playing while a recording session, you have got only silence.
Þ Please check whether your sampling program is using the ARC44 driver or not. If this program is not able to specify a definite driver, the choose in the Control Panel under Multimedia the ARC44 driver as the privileged driver.
Þ Check the input routing und the volume setting at the ARC44 Mixer wich is contained in Control Panel.
Þ Check the cable connections between the ARC44 Soundcard and the external audio devices by using the notes provided in the paragraphs Connecting audio devices at the ARC44 and Connecting the CDROM Drive
· The recording of a sound goes well but you can not hear anything while recording.
Þ Use the Monitor function at ARC44 Mixer contained in der Control Panel.
· While playing a audio CD you can hear noting.
Þ Check the input routing und the volume setting at the ARC44 Mixer wich is contained in Control Panel.
Þ Turn the cable of the CDROM at the ARC44 around 180°.
· While playing a audio CD you can hear only one channel.
Þ Possibly you are using a wrong cable for the connection between the CDROM drive and the ARC44. To solve this problem please read the paragraph Connecting the CDROM Drive
